Tricks, Treats & Tales in the Susquehanna Valley, 1- 2 Days, Lewisburg Area

 Great October fun!

n  Enjoy beautiful fall foliage as our costumed step-on guide leads the way for two days of fun including a Trick-or- Treat Goodie Bag Tour. Everyone will receive empty trick-or-treat bags that we'll fill with gifts as we visit local sites such as Colonial Candlecrafters for a behind-the-scenes tour and a demo plus jelly jar candle, a local winery for a tasting and split of wine, and farm and garden specialty shop for pumpkins.

n  As a special treat, Slifer House Victorian Mansion will be hosting an evening tour with Victorian Tales presented by costumed interpreters who bring to life the literature of the era in the setting in which it was created! There's no better time to enjoy tales of Edgar Allen Poe and the like than at Halloween!

n    Tours will be custom designed to meet client's needs and selected sites.

 Recipe Roulette, 1 Day, Lewisburg Area

 Try to guess the recipe!

          A fun day of exploring some of our favorite sites while collecting ingredients, learning interesting tidbits about them, and trying to guess what they make along the way. At the end of the day you'll get the recipe and a sample!

n     Visit a Victorian Mansion for a tour plus your first ingredient, a can of condensed milk.

n     Browse a Penn Dutch or Farmers Market to pick up a freshly baked ingredient.

n     Visit a shop filled with home and garden items and receive raisins as you next ingredient.

n     Enjoy a tour and tasting at a local winery where you'll receive a split of wine.

     Have you guessed the recipe? It's for delicious bread pudding with a raspbery wine sauce! A great mystery tour!

 How Green Is Our Valley 1-3 Days, Lewisburg/ Williamsport/ Wellsboro

 Farm Tours, river cruise, and more!

  Learn about the bounty of the land on this tour dedicated to agriculture, Pennsylvania's number one industry.

n     Meet a shepherdess on our one-day option during a tour of her fiber farm where she raises goats and sheep for mohair and fleese and then spins it into yarn.

n     Visit the Sones Farm Museum to see first-hand the ingenuity of our ancestors through the museums displays of the simple implements they used to reap nature's bounty.

n      Head to Le Jeun Chef, the teaching restaurant of the culinary arts school at the PA School of Technology, for a delicious meal using the freshest ingredients.

n      Enjoy a narrated cruise on the Hiawatha Riverboat where you'll learn how in the 1800's timber harvested from the northern mountains made local citizens millionaires.

n      Mulit-day tour options include exploring the lush mountains of PA's Northern Tier with visits to the PA Grand Canyon Overlook, maple sugaring farm, PA Lumber Museum and train ride. In the greater Lewisburg area you may visit a christmas tree farm, one or two wineries and if visiting on Wednesdays, our local Farmers Market including Penn Dutch vendors.

*     One-day tour option available mid-May through August to include fiber farm. Multi-day tours available mid-May through late October for all sites except the fiber farm.

 

            


 A Wonderful Good Tour, 1 Day, Lewisburg

 A Mennonite guide offers an authentic look at the Penn Dutch including a visit to his church!

 

 

Enjoy a driving tour of picturesque Penn Dutch farmlands led by a local Mennonite who welcomes you to his
church, sings refrains from favorite hymns, and explains why he travels by horse & buggy. Plus:

n  Visit the Packwood House Museum for a Quilts & Coverlets Tour.

n  Enjoy a Penn Dutch buffet including traditional "sweets and sours", "slippery pot pie" and more.

n  Visit a Penn Dutch dry goods store offering whoopie pies and the chance to pick up a bit of Dutch while talking to the owner who married into the Mennonite sect.

*   Available Monday through Wednesday and Friday, April to Oct.

Spy Pie Goodie Bag Tour!,1- 2 Days, Lewisburg Area

A take off of our Wonderful Good Penn Dutch Tour this tour includes a humorous and tasty variety of pies!

I Spy Pie Goodie Bag Tour!,1-2 Days, Lewisburg Area

Our guide gives everyone empty bags to fill during the day with special "pie" gifts!

n  Enjoy a driving tour of the Penn Dutch countryside lead by a member of our local "Team Mennonite" community which uses teams of horses as the main mode of transportation. You'll learn how this sect located in the area, why they use horses for transportation as well as a few of their church customs during a visit to a Mennonite church. You'll also take home a Cow Pie, the edible version, as a memento, plus visit a Penn Dutch market where you’ll take home a Whoopie Pie.

n  Dine at the Carriage Corner Restaurant for chicken pot pie plus shoe fly pie as part of our Penn Dutch meal including, of course, a sampling of sweet and sours!

n  Visit Packwood House Museum full of collectibles including a quilt collection. To keep you guessing we’ll include a special mystery pie-related gift here!

n  Also included as our own treat, recipes for some of the pies you’ve enjoyed throughout the day!

n  Overnight Option: We'll include a workshop tour and demo plus browsing at Colonial Candlecrafters as well as a jelly jar scented like pumpkin spice or apple crisp plus additional activities based on group preferences!

*   Day trip available Tuesdays to Friday with some Saturdays, year round. Overnight available all but Sunday-Monday runs.


 A Day in the Country, 1 Day, Lewisburg 

 Country treasures and treats!

Be a shunpiker and shun the "pikes" or turnpikes in preference for beautiful back roads where there is much to discover!

n  Enjoy a workshop tour, demo and browsing at an artisan candlemaker's factory.

n   Explore a Farmer's Market or Penn Dutch dry goods store with a fresh bakery item for everyone from a Penn Dutch baker.

n   Browse among items for home and garden at a Country Farm & Home specialty shop where you’ll learn how to create a living wreath.

n  Enjoy a tour and tasting at a local winery as well.

 “Crooks & Nooks” Up River, 1 Day, Williamsport/ Lewisburg

 The tour that started it all! Our crooks is still on the road!

On the lam since the early 1990's when Landmark was founded, our convict has managed to evade police for 15 years "hijacking" motorcoaches and  leading groups on crooked trails through Williamsport and Lewisburg to views of the Lewisburg Federal penitentiary where Al Capone and Jimmy Hoffa did time! He often cases the homes of Williamsport's historic and present-day millionaires. Other mischief  includes:

n   Tour Rowley House Mansion, sometimes finding a stash of hidden "million dollar bills".

n      Do “time up river” during a Susquehanna River cruise aboard the Hiawatha offering a luncheon served by more “convicts”!

*   Available weekdays, May through October.

 Antique treasures, shopping & Victorian Tea!

n   Stroll among Tiffany glass, Chippendale furniture, quilts and other collectibles at the Packwood House Museum filled with art and antiques from Edith Fetherston's around-the-world shopping sprees. An inspiration for those with the shopping bug.

n   Explore Lewisburg's eclectic blend of cafes, art galleries and boutiques while taking in the beautiful Victorian architecture of this historic area.

n   Visit Colonial Candlecrafters for a workshop tour, candle-decorating demo and browsing.

n   Finish the day a the Victoria House Restaurant, a 19th-century showpiece where you'll be treated to an afternoon tea featuring finger sandwiches, scones and dessert sampler including white chocolate & pear mousse, chocolate berry bread pudding, orange shortbread and wine.

*   Available Monday to Friday year round. For Saturday travel instead of visiting the candle shop we may visit a home & garden specialty shop or winery.

 Red Hattitude Holiday Tour,  2 Days, Central PA

 Two days filled with red & purple, and highlighted with holiday merriment.

n  Visit Victoria House Restaurant for a colorful meal including lavender chicken, purple rice, red velvet sponge cake and more!

n    Take home a red or purple poinsettia from a local site that is a winter wonderland full of decorated holiday trees, wreaths,  swags and decorations. Midweek tours have an option of a special holiday presentation to help you add a bit of holiday flare to your home or learn about the symbolism and uses of lavender keeping with the purple theme.

n  Enjoy a tour and demo at Colonial Candlecrafters and perhaps a get a head start on holiday shopping.

n    Visit a German-inspired Christlkindl Market complete with artisan vendors holiday music, and delicious foods or enjoy a holiday theatre presentation or our own heritage entertainer bringing to life music from the region's 19th century heyday  including holiday favorites.

n  Be treated like a Queen during a tour of Williamsport's Millionaires' Row including appetizers in one mansion and a gourmet meal in another!

 Elite Treats Millionaires Row, 1 Day, Williamsport

 We’ll treat you like a millionaire!

n     Our Victorian-attired guide will lead you along Millionaires' Row where the 19th-century lumber barons built their mansions and churches. You'll visit the Romanesque-style Annunciation Catholic Church plus Queen Anne-style Rowley House Mansion to enjoy appetizers in the mansion's elegant dining room which was recently featured in "Victorian Homes" magazine for its wonderful stained glass and woodworking.

n    Next stop, Herdic House, built as an Italianate mansion by Peter Herdic who was the founder of Millionaires'  Row. Enjoy a delicious gourmet entree plus explore the site that includes a mahogany staircase curving three floors to a cupola.

n     End with a cruise aboard the Hiawatha Riverboat, a replica of the vessel that graced the Susquehanna in the 1800's, and a selection of desserts including berry tarts, lemon bars and petit fors plus Victorian shrubs, a delicious fruit spritzer.

n     Welcome on board our Victorian guide who will lead the way along Millionaires' Row, the tree-lined streets that

      the lumber barons once called home and step inside two of their fabulous mansions. 

n     Dine in The Herdic House Restaurant, once the home of Peter Herdic, founder of Millionaires’ Row.

n     Choose to visit the Annunciation Church where millionaires worshiped or the Taber Museum featuring regional  historic displays including art by Severin Roesen, who made his living along Millionaires’ Row and became a favorite of Jackie Onassis, as well as the Shempp Toy Train Collection.

n     See our Little League Monument honoring the sports start in Williamsport in 1939 plus a hand-carved totem pole paying tribute to Chief Walopalanee.

n     Enjoy a narrated cruise along the Susquehanna River aboard the Hiawatha Paddlewheeler, a replica of the riverboat that graced these waters in the 1800’s.
