Northern Tier One-Day Options

Any of these tours can be turned into a great multi-day tour!

 Wellsboro Backward Luncheon, Wellsboro

 It runs “backward” just like the nearby Tioga River!

Eat_Dessert_First

n  Start with tour and dessert at Highland Chocolates where you’ll see chocolates hand made. As you tour the workshop enjoy a dessert of strawberries dipped in chocolate, truffles and/or other specialty treat.

n  Visit the PA Grand Canyon Overlook for wonderful views of the upper gorge.

n  Enjoy entrée in a local restaurant such as the Penn Wells Restaurant, Antlers Inn or Log Cabin Inn.

n  Finish the day with a scenic train excursion including butlered appetizers in a private dining car!

*   Available Tuesdays & Wednesdays, late May through September, plus Thursdays in October. Note Saturday

    variations of this tour are available with a visit to Patterson Farms in Sabinsville for tour of this maple production

    site and maple sampler dessert to replace Highland Chocolates.

 WWII Museum, Zippo Museum & more! 

n  Visit Eldred were 1,500 residents worked, many of them women, at a munitions plant. You'll tour the Eldred WWII Museum which honors them and those who served overseas including Col. Mitchell Page from western PA who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts in the Battle of Guadalcanal and later served as the model for a GI Joe Doll.

n  Tour the Zippo/Case Museum and Visitors Center in Bradford to learn about the Black Crackle Zippo popular with the soldiers and “trench art” lighter embellishments.

n  During a visit to the Kinzua Overlook you'll find mountain majesty plus remains of the Kinzua Bridge, built in 1882 as the highest bridge in the world at the time.

 Lumberjacks, Sugar Shacks & Train Tracks, Wellsboro Area

 A great variety of sites from nature's sweets to scenic vistas.

Lumberjacks

n  Welcome onboard your coach our own “lumberjack” to guide you through the forests of Northern PA which supported PA’s lumber boom of the 1800’s and today continue to support the local economy through maple sap production. Visit Patterson Maple Farms, the largest maple farm in the state, to learn how trees are tapped, their sap collected, then turned into delicious syrup, creams and candy. Consider a tour f this modern sugar shack with an optional deluxe sit-down tasting sure to fill you up with flapjacks, ham, fruit plus plenty of maple treats!

n  Ride the train tracks aboard the Tioga Central Railroad during a 1 1/2 hour scenic excursion traveling from Wellsboro Junction to Hammond Lake and back, plus visit the PA Grand Canyon Overlook for panoramic views and learn how this region, once stripped of its 200-foot pine trees, is today part of the largest forested area between Chicago and New York City!

n  Overnights can also include a visit to the Bradford Heritage Museum in Troy, east of Wellsboro. This museum features a historic sugar shack as well as large collection of carriages, buggies and sleighs, plus agricultural artifacts, and the restoration of a historic stage coach inn. Another option west of Wellsboro is the PA Lumber Museum in Galeton. This indoor/outdoor site preserves and interprets the lumber era through video and displays including information about the local Civilian Conservation Corp camps, a restored CCC cabin, outdoor lumber camp buildings and a 1912 Shay-geared logging locomotive.

 Classic Corning, Corning

 From canvas to glass, enjoy classic works of art!

n  Explore the Rockwell Museum of Western Art, home to sculpture and canvases from such famous western artists as Frederic Remington and Charles Russell. You'll love this vibrant museum capturing the essence of the West, from mythic views of an untamed wilderness seen an adventurous destination for early pioneers to the home of our Native peoples.

n  Visit the Corning Museum of Glass where you’ll learn how glass is formed, see gaffers create fabulous pieces right in front of your eyes, and view historic artifacts as well as cutting-edge art pieces of today.

n  Visit downtown Corning full of boutiques, galleries and cafés.

 Wagon Rides to Endless Mountain Views,  Little Marsh

 Great vistas and food!

Climb onboard covered wagons for horse-drawn rides to an elevation of 2,350 feet reached by winding through meadows and beautiful mountain forests at a mountain farm. On a clear day you’ll be able to see for miles and miles and miles… While there also stroll through beautiful rock and flower gardens plus enjoy a country feast in the Hemlock Lodge including country-style roast beef and all the trimmings, soup cooked over an open fire, dessert and marshmallow roast.

n  You may also include a visit to the PA Grand Canyon Overlook as well as browsing in Wellsboro if you wish.

Covered Wagon Rides

n  Let our guide lead the way during horse-drawn covered wagon rides into the canyon’s upper gorge and along beautiful Pine Creek. Once an Indian trail, then a railroad line, today’s creek-side trail offers wonderful views as the canyon walls grow up beside the passage.

n  Take in panoramic views from a PA Grand Canyon Overlook and learn how this gorge is now protected as a state park and contains the largest area of green between New York City and Chicago!

n  Enjoy lunch at a restaurant such as the Log Cabin Inn, Antlers Inn or Penn Wells Restaurant, or enjoy box lunches during the wagon rides.

 Wellsboro Whistle-Stop, Wellsboro

 All aboard for a great scenic adventure!

n  A step-on guide leads the way offering historic legends and lore.

n  Enjoy a ride on the Tioga Central Railroad traveling from Wellsboro Junction to Hammond Lake and back through a variety of natural habitats which are home to deer, otter, great blue heron, osprey and more.

n  Visit the PA Grand Canyon Overlook for scenic views of this natural wonder.

n  Dine at a local restaurant such as the Penn Wells Restaurant, Antlers or Log Cabin Inn, or make this an extra special trip by including tour and deluxe tasting at Patterson Farms, PA’s largest maple farm. Plus consider a new option of including a light lunch of soup and sandwich, or perhaps a full hot luncheon aboard the train!

n  Time may also be included to explore charming downtown Wellsboro.

 Dickens of a Christmas Festival, Wellsboro

 A wonderful festival celebrating the age of Charles Dickens!

n  Explore charming Wellsboro and its annual Dickens of a Christmas Festival where vendors  
 offering food and crafts along with strolling entertainers, all dressed in Victorian attire, kick of 
 the holiday season.

n  As an overnight option stay in Williamsport and include Slifer House Museum for a special hoilday focused tour in Lewisburg along with great shopping. Consider including a Holiday Goodie Bag Tour which combines shopping with gifts for everyone to take home as a special treat.

*  Festival is the first Saturday of December.

n  Climb onboard the Tioga Central Railroad for a scenic trip while enjoyed food served in the train's historic dining car complete with linen-covered tables. Choose from a light  soup and salad or soup and sandwich luncheon, snacks, or a full hot served meal!

n  Visit Highland Chocolates in Wellsboro for a tour of this artisan workshop and take home a bag of treats or stop at Pattersons Maple Farm in Sabinsville for tour and goodies!

n  Visit the PA Grand Canyon Overlook for scenic views of this natural wonder. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant such as the Log Cabin Inn, Antlers Inn or Penn Wells Restaurant, or enjoy box lunches during the wagon rides.

 Erie's Place on the Bay, Erie
 Bay cruise & lighthouse views!

n  Enjoy a relaxing narative and delicious luncheon while cruising Presque Isle Bay aboard the Victorian Princess.

n  Visit the Erie Maritime Museum which tells of the area's rich maritime heritage including Niagara, the warship that won the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. You may also have the chance to board the U.S. Brig Niagara, the reconstructed flagship of Pennsylvania, if in port.

n  Visit the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, a state-of-the-art facility teaching visitors about the unique 3,200 acres of Presque Isle through video and displays plus a 75-foot tall glass "lighthouse" offering great views.
