South Central One-Day Options

Any of these tours can be turned into a great multi-day tour!

 

 Spooky Tales & Rails, Middletown

 Dine in a haunted house with a medium!

n  Start the day with a relaxing ride aboard the Middletown Railroad where you'll travel along Swatara Creek learning about the history of the area including Horse Thief Cave and a haunted home along the tracks.

n  Enjoy lunch in Alfred's Victorian Mansion, a wonderful restaurant located in a Victorian mansion that happens to be haunted by Emma and perhaps one other spirit. A special guest at the luncheon will be a local paranormal expert and medium who will tell of her own experiences with the ghosts of the mansion as well as other local sites.

*  Available Tuesdays and Thursdays late June through August due to train’s schedule. Variations

     replacing train ride with other activities available year round.


 Do the Twist!, York County

 50’s fun & games plus a twisted backward luncheon!

n  Our guide will step right out of the 50's to lead this nostalgic tour that begins with a visit the Haines Shoe House, shaped like a shoe and a popular 50’s honeymoon spot, for a tour plus root beer float dessert.

n  Then head to San Carlo’s in the Hop Restaurant featuring a Chevy on the roof and Dodge inside where you’ll do The Twist and enjoy a hula hoop contest plus relaxed entrees from the era! Your guide will give out prizes for the best dance and hula hoop performances!

n  End at Naylor’s Winery for tour, tasting and classic appetizers.

n  Overnight Option: Include a tour of Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Plant and perhaps a meal at a local diner!

For extra fun, have everyone dress up like their favorite fifties start and give out prizes for the best dressed!

Learn the ABC’s of Harrisburg

n  "A" is for the Appalachian Brewing Company where you'll enjoy a tour of this microbrewery and luncheon where the brewmaster himself will join you and offer insight into brews that are paired with four courses.

n  “B” is for the historic Broad Street Market, one of the oldest operating markethouses in America, still offering a fine selection of foods from gourmet sausage to Penn Dutch cinnamon buns, produce, fresh flowers, and more.

n  “C” is for the Capitol. Tour the PA Capitol Building to see the 26,000-ton dome modeled after St. Peter’s in Rome and the Italian marble staircase, a copy of the grand staircase of the Paris Opera House.

n  Additional tour options include shopping and train excursion.

*  This tour works best Thursday through Saturday and is available year round.

 

 Taming of the Brew "Man Tour", Hershey/Harrisburg

 A day for the guys! 2 breweries and a car museum.

Red T-Bird

n  Visit the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum in Hershey which is home to dozens of carefully restored vintage vehicles and rotating short term displays that range from Model T's to Muscle Cars. The site also houses items of the Museum of Bus Transportation including the Lakeland Bus Lines bus from the movie "Forrest Gump."

n  Tour the Appalachian Brewing Company and enjoy a brewmaster’s luncheon including multi-course food and beer pairing lead by the brewmaster plus visit Troeg's Brewery for tour and tasting. 

*  Available Saturdays, year round. 


 Houses of Harrisburg, Harrisburg

 Governor’s home, Capitol, brew house & doll house!

n  Tour the PA Governor's Residence as well as the beautiful State Capitol building which boasts a 26,000-ton dome.

n  Visit the Doll House Museum filled with over 5,000 dolls including antique dolls, advertisement dolls and novelties,

     presidential dolls, and GI Joes plus trains and Hot Wheels!

n  Dine at the Appalachian Brewing Company’s brew house or at the FireHouse Restaurant located in a former fire station.

n  Overnight Option: Add in a visit to the Allenberry Playhouse for meal and show and/or lunch or a brewmaster's dinner with the

    at ABC pairing beer with each course.

*  Available Tuesdays & Thursdays in the spring and fall plus for a limited time in December to include Governor's
    Residence. Overnight would start on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday during these times of year. Year round

 Hogs & Hemis, Hershey/York

 Harley and auto museum!

n     Visit the Harley Davidson Factory to see how these famous "hogs" are made.  

n     Visit the Appalachian Brewing Company for lunch with options including "The Hog Wild" pulled pork sandwich with Susquehanna Stout BBQ sauce.

n    You'll find hemis at the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate, displaying nearly 100 antique automobiles and buses as well as plenty of memorabilia .

*    Available weekends, year round.


 

 Steals & Deals, York County   

 Our infamous crook leads a crooked trail on this unique trip that's great as a MYSTERY TOUR!

n     Get ready for fun when our escaped “convict” guide hijacks your coach and leads a crooked trial for the day!

n     “Case” the Haines Shoe House as your crook looks for a new hideout or perhaps plan an art heist at the ART Sculpture Studio where some of the world's most famous art is created!

n     Head to San Quentin, oops, we mean San Carlo’s Restaurant for a delicious luncheon of more than bread and water!

n     Stop off at Stauffer’s Cookie Outlet for wonderful deals on cookies, pretzels and nuts, but please don’t let our crook steal all the delicious samples.

n      Visit Naylor’s Winery for tour and tasting, much better than jailhouse hooch!

 Learn how York earned the nickname "The Factory Capitol" and enjoy food finds along the way!

Martin’s Potato Chip Factory

York County is full of great behind-the-scenes tours and interesting sites. Choose three of the sites listed below for a one-day or if you just can’t miss any, stay overnight!

n   Tour the Haines Shoe House for a unique peek inside this home shaped like a shoe! As a fanciful treat everyone will receive shoelace licorice during their visit!

n    Visit Martin’s Potato Chip Factory to see chips being kettle-cooked and hand-raked in oil and perhaps pick a hot chip from the line! Everyone will receive a bag of chips or, during the holiday season, popcorn which Martin’s also makes to string as a tree decoration. (Tuesdays only.)

n   Browse among samples and great bargains at Stauffer’s Cookie Outlet  with a bag of ginger snaps for everyone.

n   Tour the Harley Davidson factory and receive temporary tattoos.

n   Taste local vintages at Naylor’s Winery with a “375” split of wine for all.

* Available weekdays and weekends year round howver limited Sunday sites. Martins on Tuesdays only.

 Popcorn to string on a tree, ginger snaps & wine to take home!

n   Everyone gets a bag or holiday stocking to collect gifts as Santa’s helper, our own special guide, leads the way! Tour Martin’s Chips where you’ll see how chips and popcorn are made and take home popcorn to string on your tree, dine at San Carlo’s Restaurant for tasty holiday fare and receive a York Peppermint Pattie as a special memento, visit Stauffer’s Cookies for ginger snaps and enjoy a tasting plus split of wine at Naylor’s Winery for a seasonal glow.

* Available Tuesdays. Great as a Christmas in July Tour!

 Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire & Theatre in the Mansion, Manheim

Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire—Stroll through a 35-acre Elizabethan village complete with old English structures, costumed merrymakers and performers, food and craft vendors.

Poe Evermore—The mansion turns into the House of Usher for the annual tribute to Edgar Allen Poe including bizarre characters from his stories of mystery and mayhem.
