Victorian Guide 

n     Our Victorian-attired guide will lead you along Millionaires' Row where the 19th-century lumber barons built their mansions and churches.You'll visit the Romanesque-style Annunciation Catholic Church plus Queen Anne-style Rowley House Mansion to enjoy appetizers in the mansion's elegant dining room which was recently featured in "Victorian Homes" magazine for its wonderful stained glass and woodworking.  

n     Next stop, Herdic House, built as an Italianate mansion by Peter Herdic who was the founder of Millionaires' Row. Enjoy a delicious gourmet entree plus explore the site that includes a mahogany staircase curving three floors to a cupola. 

n     End with a cruise aboard the Hiawatha Riverboat, a replica of the vessel that graced the Susquehanna in the 1800's, and a selection of desserts including berry tarts, lemon bars and petit fors plus Victorian shrubs, a delicious fruit spritzer.

n     Visit a gourmet restaurant housed in a gorgeous Victorian mansion restaurant for chef demo and dessert. The owner of this restaurant, likely to be your chef creating a delicious bananas foster flambe for you, has cooked for Donald Trump and Jimmy Carter.

n     Pair wines with chocolate fondue treats during a tour and tasting at a local winery

n    Browse a Farmers Market where everyone will receive a freshly baked dessert item from a Penn Dutch vendor to take home. 

n     Visit an artisan candlemaker for a workshop tour, demo and browsing among candles with scents including Banana Split, Wild Berries & Cream, Applesauce Cake, Pumpkin Pie or Creme Brule! If you wish we can include a souvenir candle in a "dessert" scent as a special gift. 

n     Choose to include lunch at the gourmet restaurant along with your dessert included there or on own at the Farmers Market.

n  Meet the lions, tigers and bears at T&D’s Cats of the World which offers refuge to exotic felines and wildlife. Consider having your group “adopt” one of these animals for just a couple of dollars per person and we’ll be sure everyone on the tour receives “adoption papers” to take home.

n  Tour a 112-acre farm with rolling pasture and lovely views to learn about the sheep, pigs, and chickens raised in a sustainable environment, do a few light “farm chores” and/or participate in a workshop felting wool.

n  Lunch may be on own or included at a local restaurant or consider a meal created by a chef dedicated to using the freshest local ingredients possible at a winery with views of the vineyard below!

▬Our A-Mazing Fun Tour is a great family variation including T&D’s Cats plus a farm Maze Park featuring a 95 ft. tube slide, rope maze, web maze, tile maze, corn cannon, fun barn and mini zip line all summer. Fun you can "bank" on!  

n  Let our “banker” from the game of Monopoly lead you on a fun tour of Williamsport playfully tying elements of the game and the city together. As you enter historic Millionaires'’ Row passing “GO” you’ll get a “million dollar bill” (inflation has taken its toll), learn about the rise and fall of Victorian millionaire property owners and even pass jail thankfully not losing a turn in the process.  

n  Plus learn about another famous game, Little League, founded here in the 1930s around the same time that Monopoly was created and enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour including Little League’s World Series championship field.  

n  Also included is a riverboat cruise with a team trivia game. 

 Overnight tours will include additional sites that “play” into the theme and can include a game of the Williamsport Crosscutters, a Class B affiliate of the world-champion Philadelphia Phillies.

Underground Railroad, riverboat cruise, toy train collection and more!

n  Learn about the Underground Railroad which operated in Williamsport along the Susquehanna River and nearby Indian trails with the help of Daniel Hughes, a conductor on the underground railroad and canal boat operator. Enjoy an introductory video narrated by his great grand-daughter plus travel along Freedom Road where Daniel is buried along with 9 Native American soliders from the Civil War and see where caves in the mountain side used to harbor fleeing slaves. 

n  Cruise the Susquehanna River and enjoy lunch aboard the Hiawatha.

n  Enjoy an artist-lead tour of the world's largest outdoor portraiture mural which tells the story of Williamsport yesterday to day and features 3D effects plus an embedded piece of the World Trade Center.

n  Tour a restored Pullman train car and enjoy a private peek at postcards from the 1949 Merci Train which was filled with gifts and tributes from the French showing their appreciation for relief goods sent to them in 1948 and for the liberation of France. These postcards will be brought out from museum archives especially for your visit and an historian will also be on hand to guide you through the 300-piece vintage Shempp Toy Train Collection which features models by Ives, Lionel, American Flyer and some foreign companies plus two working layouts, one in standard gauge and one in HO gauge.

Learn about PA's furry weather forecaster and "audition" to be one yourself! 

 

 n Visit Punxsutawney any time of the year to learn about the tradition of Groundhog Day, meet its furry star Punxsutawney Phil who annually predicts if spring will be early or late, and visit Gobbler's Knob where the Groundhog Day festivities take place.

 n Plus learn about other means of predicting the weather including a variety of myths and traditions at the Weather Discovery Center where you will have the chance to "audition" to be a TV meteorologist. Stand in front of the "green screen", read from a script and point out weather hot spots while seeing what you look like to a viewing audience on a TV screen. The best forecasters take home a special treat! Try this as a fun mystery tour for your group any time of the year! Great as a family get-away as well.

n  A variety of overnight and multi-day options are available and can feature such activities as touring Straub Brewery which makes a Groundhog Brew, visit to the new Elk Visitors Center to view a 4D film about the elk and perhaps see some in the wild, chainsaw carving demos, wildlife tours at Penn's Cave which also features America's only all-water cavern, tours of Penn State Campus including the famous Nittany Lion Statue and more! 


Groundhod Day Festival
Join thousands of Punxsutawney Phil’s fans from around the world at Gobbler’s Knob to see this furry critter predict the weather for the rest of the winter. According to legend if Phil sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter, and if not, an early spring. You’ll be there as Phil emerges from his burrow and tells the Groundhog Club president in “Groundhogese” his prediction which is then translated for the world. After this early morning event, enjoy browsing among vendors and shops downtown offering Groundhog Day souvenirs and other goodies. Your homework before the event is to watch the movie “Groundhog Day” (over and over) starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell which was recognized by the National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.” Suggested as part of an overnight tour.

Celebrate “green cuisine!” Try a “taste of place” tour focusing on our local landscape and farmers whose effortsbring fresh food to our tables. Tour one or two family farms such as a 112-acre farm specializing in sheep, pigs and chickens and a 39-acre produce farm where the owners grow heritage crops as well as contemporary favorites, with the opportunity to talk with the farmers about their sustainable agricultural practices. Collect eggs or felt wool from locally grown and sheared sheep, visit a Maze Park (see our A-Mazing Fun Tour, above), enjoy a seasonal meal featuring our local bounty, and perhaps visit a local farmers market.

n     Our Barnyards to Vineyards and the Artisans In Between overnight trip includes a tour and tasting at two wineries plus gourmet meal overlooking a vineyard, farm tours as described above, farmers market plus artisan candlecrafter and more!
